Is there any kind of justification to beating up a minor?

How it started: some guy and his girlfriend had a major problem with my cousin who tends to be a drama queen... oh and i forgot to mention me the the guys girlfriends was assosciates. anyway one day i am at the park and i see my cousin so i go up and briefly say hi.. she starts going on how these girls are trying to jump her. i ask her who and are the girls here. (just trying to see who it was, so we can squash things) the girl's boyfriend was standing in back of us and he was going on and on about how he was going to kick my cousin a$$. so i just ignored him, so than out the blue he directs his anger toward me... he tells one of his friends let this ni%26amp;%26amp;a say something and i am going to knock him out. so i turn around and he jumps up like saying something and gets all up in my face. i thought he was going to try to attack so i punched him in his face.. next thing u know somebody was pulling me off of him.. than afterwards i find out the kid is only like 17 and i am like 20.Is there any kind of justification to beating up a minor?
How many witnesses were around that saw him get in your face that way?

If there were witnesses, you may want to get names and addresses in case the parent's want to press charges.

it's a lot of this going around so just chill I don't want to see you in jail. look at tube and witness some of the violence that's going around it is so terrible that I'm afford for my granddaughters

I am not sure about this, but if you thought he was going to attack you then I guess you can use that as a defense if someone brings this up.
